TriMet, Portland’s public transit company, received a grant to run a PSA campaign aimed right at an at risk audience.

A nationwide safety study revealed that young men were the most likely to be killed by buses or trains. The reason? They were also the most likely to be multitasking on their smartphones. It’s hard to notice oncoming public transit when you’re listening to music, texting and walking all at the same time.

I created signage for both the outside and inside of buses, as well as posters for bus stops, benches and even restrooms. There was also a social media campaign that covered Facebook, Twitter and Pandora Radio.

What we didn’t expect was how popular the campaign would become with locals and tourists.
Many snapped photos of the campaign and posted them on social media.

This has been TriMet’s most successful campaign to date.
